PJ Library Coordinator

PJ Library is an international Jewish children’s book subscription program, which has become a central tool to connect families to their local Jewish community. PJ Library in Ottawa is administered by the Jewish Federation of Ottawa and is the flagship program of the Federation’s effort to engage families with young children.

Reporting to the Vice President Impact, Partnership and Allocations, the PJ Library Coordinator is responsible for creating and delivering innovative family programs with a primary focus on outreach, relationship building, project and event management, and supporting our vital fundraising efforts.

The PJ Library Coordinator is the face of PJ Library in Ottawa interacting with families, program partners and donors. The PJ Library Coordinator will be responsible for managing all aspects of PJ Library in Ottawa, including managing the book subscription service; program planning; outreach and engagement and reporting to Harold Grinspoon Foundation and funders. Exceptional organizational, administrative and engagement skills are required along with the ability to build relationships with a wide variety of young Jewish families from diverse backgrounds.

Programming

  • Plan and implement a robust calendar of PJ Library monthly programs and events for PJ families, Babies & Bagels, and PJ Our way.
  • Communicate regularly with PJ families to serve as a local Jewish community connection
  • Facilitate connection of PJ families to one another and smaller PJ “neighborhood” networks
  • Design and facilitate programs based on themes from PJ Library books and Jewish values, which align with the Jewish Federation of Ottawa’s mission to advance and promote an exceptional quality of Jewish life
  • Empower volunteers and parents to take an active role in building PJ community

Operational

  • Manage PJ Library database including address changes, billing, operation and subscription issues
  • Complete all grant reporting necessary for the Harold Grinspoon Foundation
  • Cultivate and engage donors to grow PJ Library in Ottawa
  • Cultivate relationships with and work closely with PJ Library Parent Committee
  • Identify, steward and solicit prospective donors for the PJ Library Annual Campaign

Marketing

  • Communicate regularly with PJ Library families via WhatsApp groups and social media networks
  • Work to engage and build relationships with both affiliated and unaffiliated PJ Library families
  • Engage community partners in PJ monthly calendar
  • Customize marketing, promotional and printed materials
  • Write a monthly PJ Library e-newsletter
  • Manage the PJ Library social media

Skills, Qualifications and Mindset

  • Significant knowledge of Jewish culture and community
  • Commitment and belief in the mission and vision of Federation to advance and promote and exceptional quality of Jewish life in Ottawa
  • Extremely organized, detail-oriented individual, capable of self-managing and multitasking in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Project management experience required, particularly with multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work weekends (excluding Shabbat and holidays) as needed
  • Capability to cultivate volunteers and foster connections within the community
  • Familiar with digital marketing strategies including social, email, search and programmatic

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Canva
  • Experience with project management software/systems
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Familiarity with Ottawa’s Jewish community is a plus

Salary & Benefits

  • 28 hours a week $43,000-$48,000K (Full-time equivalent of $55,000-$60,000)
