Jewish Family Services 

  • NEW! JCART: Groceries to Your Door
    Grocery shopping and delivery program aimed at helping seniors to get their groceries and other essential items, including medications delivered right to their door. Available with the following stores: Loblaws, Real Canadian Super Store and Your Independent Grocer. At time of booking, a JFS Staff person will take your grocery order and the preferred location for grocery shop. A short intake will be done when initiating service along with credit card information. Book 4 days before desired delivery day.
    Cost $15 per order.

  • Miriam’s Well
    Fresh fruits and vegetables are available on the last Monday of every month and distributed onsite at Kehillat Beth Israel. Available to low income Jewish seniors. A short intake will be done when initiating this service. This is a free service.

  • Friendly Visits & Teleshalom: Due to COVID our Friendly Visiting programming is currently being offered by Zoom only. This program is available to isolated seniors who would benefit from more social connection. Our Friendly Visitor and Teleshalom programs are volunteer based with client matched with a screened and trained volunteer based on personal needs, experience, and where possible shared interests. A short intake with a social worker is required to access this program. This is a free service.

  • Binah - Adult Day Program for Jewish Seniors who are experiencing cognitive impairment: Due to COVID our Adult Day Program (ADP) is currently being offered through Zoom only. This program meets Monday mornings and Wednesday morning and afternoon.

Ten Yad of Ottawa: Our mission is to help individuals and families within the Jewish community during life altering situations.

  • Sunshine Calls: Sunshine calls are friendly “phone” visits, generally taking place once a week. They are intended to help people keep in touch with someone outside their regular circle during this stressful COVID period, when we lack our normal interactions and may feel particularly isolated.

  • Jewish Community Chaplaincy Program: Provides outreach, advocacy, and spiritual care for Jewish residents living in non-Jewish care homes. These services are provided to Retirement Homes, Long-Term Care Homes, Hospitals, and Hospices as requested. We connect with Jewish residents through our Chaplaincy outreach and provide weekly Bikkur Cholim visits with our Chaplain.

  • Care for the Caregivers: A certified Dementia Consultant works with caregivers to help them understand the changes in the brain that affect their loved one, and provides guidance and techniques for how to effectively communicate and engage with them.

  • Seniors support and Case Management services:
    Counselling & Case Management: Comprehensive services available to Jewish seniors and their families. Cost: Fee for service, and a sliding scale is available.

Transportation
